About Us
The Tribunal was constituted in 1980 to adjudicate disputes related to trade tax under the Uttar Pradesh Trade Tax Act, 1948 (formerly the Sales Tax Act). However, before November 9, 2000, a new hill state named Uttarakhand was carved out of the existing state of Uttar Pradesh. Subsequently, under the Uttar Pradesh Trade Tax Act, 1948, as applicable to Uttarakhand, the name of the Tribunal was changed to Uttarakhand Trade Tax Tribunal. Subsequently, from October 1, 2005, under the Uttarakhand Value Added Tax Act, 2005, the name of the Tribunal was changed to Commercial Tax Tribunal, Uttarakhand. It has two benches in Uttarakhand, Dehradun and Haldwani, with its headquarters located in Dehradun.
